Day 2: (Core work) The Benefits of Celery Juice with Intermittent Fasting #22DayChallenge

Whilst preparing for this new 22 Day Challenge, I was thinking about what I want to achieve and the best way to do it. I knew I wanted to do some form of Juicing and Celery Juice kept popping up when I was doing my research. There are numerous benefits from drinking Celery Juice such as killing any virus, flushing toxins from the liver, weight loss and clearer skin but the main attraction for me is that it is great for digestive issues such as bloating and acid reflux which are 2 things I suffer from if I eat certain foods so I am ready to give it a whirl. Tesco is selling celery for 49p a packet which makes one large juice. As a booster, I also add 1 tbsp of wheatgrass powder which is a great source of iron, Vitamin A & E and is the perfect accompaniment as it is also great for the skin, and boosts energy levels.


If I was doing this challenge alone I would have opted for a 22 Day Celery Juice cleanse only whilst drinking herbal teas and water in between. However, I want to do this journey with my mum and make it easier for others that have never done this before so I decided to merge Juicing with Intermittent Fasting. The normal ratio is 16:6 which is 16 hours of fasting and a 6 hr window of eating. I've done that before last year when I was living in Gozo, Malta so I wanted to stretch my boundaries even further and have opted for 22:2 ratio. We will drink 1 large Celery Juice in the morning and evening between 1-3pm. We will also have a healthy meal without any meat and see how that goes. You only know if something is working through doing it so if I need to recalibrate I will totally do this as I have done on my other 22 Day Challenges.



In theory, it should work as after a while (usually between 2-4 days) our bodies stop using carbohydrates as a fuel source and start producing something called ketones in the liver. Basically I will be switching the body's normal operating system and hitting a reset button for my body to go into a much healthier cycle.


For years we have been told that we need to eat 3 meals a day but a lot of new studies say this is an urban myth. If we work in physical, labour intensive jobs that require extra energy then 3 meals a day would make sense as they burn off that extra energy. In the short term, this 1 meal a day will be a good thing. If any of you are feeling that you can't do this all you need to do is take the first step. Most times when we feel hunger it can also be a sign of dehydration, drink water or a herbal tea and your body will soon get with the program and adjust after 3 days and you will start to feel the benefits almost immediately from the celery juice as I have.



DAILY TIP - Soak your fruit and vegetables for 15 minutes in hot water with a dash (2 tbsps) of apple cider vinegar and 1 tbsp of baking soda or bicarbonate of soda. It washes all the chemicals and pesticides away and gives them a great shine. If you don't have this any vinegar will do.
