Day 4 - Make your own delicious hummus in 3 minutes #22DayChallenge

When I start off any 22 challenge or create a plan for someone I start off with devising the core work which I wrote about on Day 1 for me the perfect solution was a fusion of Celery Juicing with Wheatgrass Powder and Intermittent Fasting which you can read more about in my Day 1 Blog


The next step is to replace the old unhealthy habit with a new healthier habit. This is an important step as you need to really look at what is not working for you and see what will otherwise it creates a vacuum and the old habit will remain.


The new habit also needs to be something that you can equally enjoy and easy to put into place. My diet is usually quite healthy but that didn't matter, what caused me to put on an extra 2 stone during lockdown was late-night snacking and my go-to choices were crisps and chocolate. I usually work until 8 pm and was hungry and if I didn't satiate that hunger I would be ravenous by 9.30pm. I didn't want to make another meal at that time so I went for the quick easy fix and told myself this was my reward for a hard days work whilst settling down for the night and THAT is how bad habits begin. They start off as innocuous whisperings and then take form.


I started thinking about what the best replacement would be and my mind took me back to Cordoba, Spain...where I lived 4 years ago. I used to go to a lovely little alfresco bistro and order a hummus platter with olives, dipping bread, carrots and celery and right in the middle of that was a big wooden bowl filled with hummus, sprinkled with smoked paprika and pumpkin seeds so I decided I was going to recreate that which you can see in the picture below.




It's funny because I have never made hummus before, but earlier this year I treated myself to one of those magic bullets (small blender) which is the perfect size to make it. I have also made salsa which was also a taste sensation and easy to make so I would highly recommend getting one as it has been a great investment.











This is the recipe for my recreated hummus, the base comes from a recipe by The Happy Pear whom I did a 4-week vegan cooking course with last September


HUMMUS


  • 1 tin of chickpeas (or 240g)

  • 1 large clove of garlic

  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice

  • 1 tbsp of olive oil

  • 2 tbsps of tahini (preferably dark, although I added peanut butter and it tasted great)

  • 600 ml of water

  • A pinch of salt


  • Add all of the ingredients to your blender and in 10 seconds it forms this beautiful creamy hummus. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do and click on the below links to for more blogs and tips!!


  • DAILY TIP - This is just a basic hummus try experimenting and add other ingredients such as harissa. Next time I will be adding a roasted red pepper as that is my personal favourite hummus flavour.
