Day 13 - The Benefits of Turmeric Tea/Golden Milk #22DayChallenge

One of the things I love most about these 22 Day Challenges are the twists and turns you take on your journey...it is NEVER a straight path. Yesterday I had an extra celery juice left over as my new juicer extracts more juice woo hoo!! I decided to take this opportunity to change things up and after some careful deliberation, I made some Turmeric Tea.


I usually make this during the Autumn/Winter months. It's an old favourite which reminds me of a hug in a cup at Christmas and it really warms you up. It has been so cold over the last 3 days with grey clouds and scattered showers so as lovely as Celery Juice is, I needed something warmer PLUS an added bonus is the healthy fat in the coconut oil makes you feel more full than celery juice so this has been a great new addition to this challenge....Thank you British weather!!



The ingredients are per cup


  • 1 tsp of Turmeric

  • 1 tsp of Coconut Oil

  • 1/2 tsp of Ground Black Peppercorns or Cayene Pepper

  • 1/2 tsp of Cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp of Nutmeg

  • 1/2 tsp of Grated Ginger

  • 1 cup (250 ml) of Water or your Milk of choice (I prefer Coconut Milk)


* Add the liquid and allow it to gently simmer for 10-15 minutes, add each ingredient one at a time and stir it in slowly and gently, giving each thing time to breathe and activate before you add the next ingredient to the party.


There are numerous benefits of Turmeric which has been used in both cooking and medicine for over 4,000 years. I was aware that it is a great anti-Inflammatory but after doing some further research for this blog, I found that it is the perfect accompaniment for Intermittent Fasting, Keto Diet and Weight Loss so it is perfect for my goals and I will go into more details on its benefits below.


The main active ingredient in Black Pepper is Piperine. This allows you to absorb the Curcumin within Turmeric more effectively so these two go perfectly together. If weight loss is your goal black pepper or cayenne pepper are essential ingredients as they work as a catalyst to release the health benefits of the turmeric and the magic does not happen without it. I have included a table below with more health benefits of this wonderful golden spice.




DAILY TIP #1: Whilst doing research I found that the same recipe can be used for making a Golden Milk Chia Seed Pudding. This is an exciting new discovery which I just found so I will write about it in another blog as Chia Seeds deserve to be talked about and revered in more depth. All you need to do is add chia seeds to the above recipe when it has been poured into a glass or ramekin, wait 25 minutes for them to expand and do their magic and if you want you can add a tsp of honey to sweeten it up.



DAILY TIP #2 - You can also do a half water and half milk combo. Boil the water first with all of the ingredients and add cold milk, this will cool it down and it is better to add honey using this method as you maintain more of the goodness from the honey which doesn't work well with heat.
